Other 2008 Field Trial News

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Erin’s Special Force (CH Erin’s Tin Soldier x CH Hard Driving Bev) was third in the American Field Pheasant Futurity. Please read the Nov 1 issue of the American Field for details. Ben was stricken with Nocardia this past summer and it was doubtful he would recover in time to compete this fall. Sean Derrig is extremely pleased with this young dog who is a littermate to MN derby winner, Platinum Pendulum out of Sean’s multiple champion, Erin’s Tin Soldier.

Also making headlines and showing great promise as a true all age prairie performer is Ebony, the young dog Colvin and Mazie Davis of Davis Kennels purchased from Joe last spring. Ebony’s dam is from Hard Driving Bev’s first litter to CH Front N’ Center. Zena (Bar P Zena, Jim Parks, owner) and was bred to Bar P Shadow by Bill Mason of Pampa, Texas a year ago last summer. Still a puppy this fall, ‘Joe’ was first in both the Pelican Open Derby and the Lyleton Field Trial Derby, in Broomhill, Manitoba. Congratulations to Colvin and Mazie. They have high hopes for this superbly gaited youngster.

2008 Pennsylvania Grouse Championship

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Back in Pennsylvania, Bev laid down a scorching forward race in the Pennsylvania Grouse Championship in Marienville. At about the 40 minute mark, her bell stopped far to the front where she had a grouse pointed. Unfortunately there was no judge present for her find. Fin was also strong, hunted hard and finished the hour at the Lake States and PA Championships — at the PA with a stylish back but no grouse of her own to claim. Rock, too, did the job on the ground but came up empty.

Though not always in the money, Joe was very pleased with most of the performances his string of dogs gave throughout the fall.
